in 2021, fundraising february will take the place of Laef's signature fundraising event - the royal gala

Each year, LAEF honors an individual by crowning a new King or Queen! The Individual will be recognized for their support of LAEF and Los Al kids, and will serve as LAEF’s ambassador for 2021.

2020 was a tough year for everyone. LAEF funding is down $400,000, so many of our services are at-risk of cancelation including free World Language classes, the STEAM initiative, mental health/wellness support, fee waiver scholarships for families in need and more.

Since holding our annual Royal Gala is not an option at this time, we are encouraging Los Al families to donate $50 or more and Businesses to Sponsor our Fundraising February campaign.

Don’t miss our online auction featuring many great items to purchase!

In addition to providing free World Language classes, mental health support and fee waiver scholarships for families in need, Fundraising February funds the
LAEF STEAM Initiative

The LAEF STEAM initiative provides STEAM education opportunities to students

at all nine Los Al USD campuses.

LAEF’s 2021 King is Dr. Gregg Stone! In August 2020, Dr. Stone came out of his recent retirement to serve as the Interim Principal of Los Alamitos High School in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.  He retired as the LAHS Principal in June 2019 after spending 21 years as assistant principal and principal.  Even in retirement, Dr. Stone spent the year volunteering with LAHS counseling and assisting students needing additional academic and social-emotional support.

His leadership and connection to the Griffin community are unparalleled and he is the ideal leader for the LAHS community during this difficult time.  He regularly works evenings and weekends to monitor and communicate the ever-changing situation of the pandemic.  His “Thought-of-the-Week” messages have become legendary with LAHS families; they give thought provoking and wise perspectives on life and provide a big-picture view during very uncertain times.

Dr. Stone began his educational career as a middle school teacher in the Ocean View School District in 1979.  In 1981, he moved to the Long Beach Unified School District where he served as an English teacher, basketball coach, yearbook advisor, and activities director at Millikan High School.  He also held administrative roles in the Long Beach USD at Rogers Middle School, Franklin Middle School, Wilson High School, and Millikan High School.

Dr. Stone is a humble and gracious leader who cares deeply about our District community. He has a wealth of institutional knowledge and is an exemplary leader who is approachable and service oriented. He lives in Seal Beach with his wife, and both of his children are Griffin Graduates.  LAEF is thrilled to honor Dr. Stone and look forward to him serving as our Royal Ambassador for 2021!

The 2021 Royal Gala has been canceled due to Covid-19
