Elementary Teacher Bios – SEI 2025

Katelyn Alexander is a Senior at Whittier College graduating this spring with a degree in Child Development. Katelyn comes from an extensive line of teachers from her family, with her biggest role model being her mom. Mrs. Alexander who teaches S.P.E.D (special education) at Mayfair High School. Much like her mom, Katelyn shares a passion for working with children from all backgrounds. With her knowledge of experience of working with kids combined with her experience of finishing up her degree in a classroom, Katelyn is ecstatic to be applying all of what she knows to her STEAM class. Katelyn is a firm believer in building students up using social emotional learning tools, like positive reinforcement and creating a comfortable classroom environment set for growth.
Irene has taught 30 years and recently retired from ABC Unified School District in Cerritos, CA. She taught 4th grade, 6th grade GATE and was the lead teacher in promoting Art instruction for her school. She’s also worked on the National Assessment for Educational Progress with the US Department of Education. Irene believes that Art encompassess other learning disciplines besides Art; reading, geography and gives students a sense of accomplishment. Afterall, there is an Artist in ALL of US!!
I am excited to be returning for my 14 th year at LAEF -SEI. I was once a resident of the beautiful city of Los Alamitos. I received my BA from Cal State Long Beach in Liberal Studies with a minor in psychology . I currently teach a multi -age classroom of first and second graders. I began SEI as a jumpstart third grade teacher. I’m looking forward to another amazing summer.

Stefana received her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies and her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from CSULB. She has been working for Los Alamitos Unified since 2013 and was an intervention teacher at Hopkinson until the summer of 2015 when she was hired on at McGaugh Elementary to teach 4th grade and then last year she found her home in teaching Kindergarten at McGaugh. She is extremely excited to teach for LAEF again this summer!

Hello! My name is Mrs. Melisa Baluyot and I love being a teacher. This is my 19th year of teaching, and the best part of teaching is seeing how much fun my students are having while they’re learning. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and multiple subject teaching credential from Cal State Fullerton. I have a passion for teaching STEM and prior to teaching in Los Alamitos, I have 11 years of experience teaching STEM at the Tiger Woods Foundation to students in grades 5th through 12th. This is my 6th year teaching in Los Alamitos USD and I feel so lucky to be part of our Los Al and LAEF family. I love how STEM gives us an opportunity to think outside the box and use our imagination. I can’t wait to see the amazing things that we create in class!
Christina Brown is a current student at Loyola Marymount University with years of experience in childcare and camp counseling. She has taken 6 years of ASL classes, and has served as an interpreter for many events, while also being an active member of the Deaf community. Christina leads a classroom by being energetic and fun, while also accomplishing lesson goals by the end of the session. Christina is very excited to teach your child ASL in a way they are sure to remember!

Leslie is an experienced basketball coach and player who loves the game dearly. He enjoys all aspects of the game including: playing, watching, teaching, and coaching. He has been playing since age 5 and continues to play in multiple competitive men’s leagues to this day. He has coached all ages ranging from Kindergarten (age 5) up until high school kids. While attending UC Riverside, he even assisted the women’s team as he participated as a practice player. Currently Leslie coaches skills academies and an AAU middle school girls basketball team. Even though he is always playing he makes sure to watch and follow the majority of all NBA games. His favorite team is the LA Lakers. Leslie is excited to teach for LAEF during his third SEI.

Brianne is a creative elementary art teacher who has a strong passion for introducing children to the interactive world of art. Brianne is an imaginative teacher. She is professional and highly trained in a wide array of artistic mediums. Brianne makes instant connections with her students through creative art activities.

Anya Cappon has been teaching with LEAF since 2022 and is currently the art teacher at McGaugh Elementary School. Ms. Anya loves to teach all types of art, from printmaking and painting to fiber art and sculpture. When she is not teaching art, she spends most of her time making large-scale collages and mixed-media sculptures.
Kylie is an alumna of the Los Alamitos Unified School District where she had the honor of being a part of the renowned show choir programs at McAuliffe Middle School and Los Alamitos High School. She studied Dance and Psychology at Cypress College where she received her associate’s degrees and the Presidential Scholar of Distinction of Fine Arts Award in 2020. During her time at Cypress, she choreographed for many of the dance department concerts and performed in numerous musicals such as Grease and Legally Blonde. Kylie then transferred to CSU Long Beach where she received her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and Multiple Subject Credential. Kylie has been a dance teacher and choreographer for 10 years and currently choreographs for numerous award-winning show choir programs across Southern California, including Oak and McAuliffe Middle School. In her free time, Kylie loves singing and dancing, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She is so excited to be teaching at the LAEF Summer Enrichment Institute and is looking forward to a fun summer!
Sunshine Daye is a dynamic spiritual teacher, speaker, and coach dedicated to guiding others toward freedom, joy, and transformation. An ordained minister with a Master’s degree, she brings profound joy to all her work with people of all ages. Sunshine is an avid pickleball player and coach, her first language is Spanish and Sunshine is honored to share her knowledge with the students and staff of LAEF Rooted in love and fun, Sunshine meets people where they are, inspiring them to embrace their divine nature and live joyously. “Your inner voice is the most sacred gift you have. I am elated to be instructing LEGO and Crochet Club classes this summer! I was a LEGO-loving child and have grown into a LEGO instructor for three years. I love to use LEGOS to engage my students in STEM, world-building, and artistic challenges. The versatility of LEGO allows for fun, refreshing building sessions. The art of crochet is a similar medium in its versatility and ability for creative expression. Students can carry the crochet fundamentals outside of the class and continue the fun of fiber arts!
Sonya Henning is an experienced performing arts educator with a passion for helping students discover their creative potential. She is the proud owner and founder of Emerging Artists Musical Theatre Academy in Long Beach, CA and has over 15 years of experience teaching dance, musical theatre, and voice to children of all ages. Whether students are seasoned performers or trying something new, Ms. Henning creates a supportive space for everyone to shine. She believes every student has a unique voice and she can’t wait to help them find it!
Sarah Fletcher is a dedicated gymnastics coach with a lifelong passion for the sport. She has been involved in gymnastics since the age of seven, competing in both club and high school gymnastics. 21 years old, Sarah is a fourth-year student at Arizona State University, where she is studying Urban Planning and will be graduating this summer. With nearly two years of coaching experience at multiple levels, Sarah is excited to be instructing her first session at the Los Alamitos Education Foundation (LEAF). In addition to coaching, she is entering her third year as a high school gymnastics judge for the Moore League.
Priscilla Flores is a first generation Mexican-American artist and educator. She graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from California State University of Long Beach. Since then she has worked as an Assistant Art Teacher in the East Los Angeles area, where she took part in spearheading art field trips, artist visits and student shows. While maintaining a studio practice, Priscilla is an arts education advocate, an avid runner and a music enthusiast.

Melodie graduated from Hope International University in Fullerton with a B.A. in Human Development and has taught in several private elementary schools throughout southern California for over twenty years. Developing her own curriculum and spear-heading an innovative after school program on the east coast, she moved back to California to pursue her love of hands-on teaching in the classroom.  She is currently a projects coordinator at Oakwood Academy in Long Beach and regularly teaches for LAEF after-school and during the summer.



Carrie is in her 9th year as an elementary school teacher at McGaugh Elementary School in Seal Beach. This is her 22nd year as a teacher. In her career she has taught from 1st grade to 4th grade but has been teaching 3rd grade for the last 7 years. She grew up in Long beach and went to schools in Long beach. She then spent the next 2 years at Long Beach City College and transferred to Oregon State University where she graduated as a Broadcast Journalism Major. She is married now with 3 boys who are 18, 16 and 12. They are a water polo family and that is what she does most weekends. Her oldest will be attending Long Beach State in the Fall to play water polo and they are so excited to cheer him on! She loves being around kids, watching sports and being with her GoldenDoodle, Sailor.

Our classes are engaging. They offer a rewarding experience for students, providing them with physical exercise, skill development, social interaction, and personal growth outside the classroom.

Born and raised in Torrance, CA, Sabrina Fuster-Maldonado is a genre-defying singer, songwriter, pop pianist, and voice-over actress. Years of training and honing in on her diverse skills have led her to some amazing experiences including acting in the feature film “Elena Undone” and writing an original song for the film’s soundtrack (2010), writing songs for other artists (on-going), performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Youngblood Hawke & Thirty Seconds to Mars, recording vocals for the Thirty Seconds to Mars album, “LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS,” co-writing with seasoned industry songwriters Billy Steinberg and Ken Hirsch, appearing in a Gap holiday commercial singing background vocals for Janelle Monáe, and singing on The Late Late Show with James Corden. In addition to on-camera acting, singing, performing, and songwriting, Sabrina’s voice can be heard on commercial voice-over campaigns for brands such as Universal Studios, Kaiser Permanente, Pizza Hut, SoCal Gas, The Container Store, Johnnie Walker & T-Mobile. Sabrina is also a performing artist, with released songs under her own moniker, “Sabrina Carmen.” Much of her original catalog of music is signed with top sync licensing companies like Glow Music Group and North Star Media. With all of her firsthand experience, Sabrina is thrilled to be sharing what she loves most with her students. She holds her own teachers and mentors in the highest regard and is passionate about helping others cultivate their creative voice. Sabrina teaches all levels of singing, beginner to intermediate pop piano, songwriting, and voice-over acting. 

Tanya Gelder and Carolyn Simon run Fitness For All and are certified personal trainers. They have worked at local gyms as personal and group fitness trainers for adults and children. 

Caitlyn Gutierrez is a passionate educator and artist with a heart for teaching elementary. She’s excited to bring her energy and creativity to LAEF. A proud graduate of California State University, Long Beach, Caitlyn holds a bachelor’s degree that laid the foundation for her career in education. With two years of experience teaching Speech and Debate to elementary and middle school students, Caitlyn used her skills in helping kids find their voices, express their ideas, and speak with confidence. Speech and Debate isn’t just about competition for Caitlyn, it’s about giving kids the tools to share their opinions, engage in fun debates, and enrich their speaking skills, all while encouraging respect for different viewpoints. In addition, Caitlyn is creative and passionate about the arts such as singing, crocheting, painting, drawing, and making intricate origami figures. She’s always exploring new ways to express herself.

Catalina grew up in Whittier, California and is a proud Angeleno. She has a B.A. in Sociology from UCLA and an M.A. in Urban Education from Loyola Marymount University. She has been an elementary school educator for the last 5 years at a private school in South Los Angeles.
Catalina is a matcha enthusiast and a dedicated foodie who’s always on the hunt for the next tasty bite!

Natali is a Los Alamitos USD alumna and current employee at Rossmoor Elementary. Natali graduated from CSULB with a B.A. in Child Development and Family Studies and is currently enrolled at the university to earn her teaching credential. As a native Spanish speaker, Natali is eager to serve Los Al families by teaching LAEF Spanish classes.  



Sonya Henning has been teaching voice, musical theater, and dance for the past fifteen years. She holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fullerton in Theatre Arts and continues to perform herself in both theatre and television. Ms. Henning owns and operates an academy for arts in Long Beach, Emerging Artists Musical Theatre Academy, where the mission is to give every child the opportunity to experience a performing arts education. Sonya has been teaching for LAEF since 2016! She is a superstar!

Natali is a Los Alamitos USD alumna and current employee at Rossmoor Elementary. Natali graduated from CSULB with a B.A. in Child Development and Family Studies and is currently enrolled at the university to earn her teaching credential. As a native Spanish speaker, Natali is eager to serve Los Al families by teaching LAEF Spanish classes.  



Keegan was raised in Los Alamitos and graduated from Los Alamitos High School. He has a Bachelor of Music from Musicians Institute and was also a part of the Young Americans College of the Performing Arts in which he performed and taught in schools and communities around the world. He has been a drum instructor for the Long Lake Camp for the Performing Arts in Long Lake, NY, and has taught at Glee Music Academy in Lake Forest and WePlay Music in Irvine, where he still teaches drum lessons today. He is currently the Kinder/TK music instructor at both Hopkinson and Weaver. Outside of teaching, Keegan loves to be active at his gym and going for jogs and bike rides. He also is a drummer in two different bands and enjoys recording and performing music with them. He also on occasion drums for Viewpoint Church in Newport Beach.

Alyssa Kennedy is a fully credentialed teacher with experience in teaching elementary school students. She is deeply passionate about building meaningful relationships with her students and is dedicated to helping them discover and explore their individual passions. Alyssa thrives on creating an environment where students feel free to express their creativity and share new ideas. She believes that fostering a supportive and inspiring classroom atmosphere is key to nurturing young minds. Alyssa is excited to be a part of the Los Alamitos Education Foundation (LAEF) this summer and looks forward to contributing to the SEI!

Susie received her undergraduate degree from UCLA and her multiple subject credential from CSULB. She has a master’s degree in reading instruction. Currently, she teaches kindergarten at McGaugh Elementary. She has over 14 years of teaching in the primary grades. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, bowling, and attending concerts. Susie is looking forward to teaching for LAEF for her 4th year.

Knowledge Breaking Crew provides premium breakdancing classes to kids all over the LA and OC area. This summer, Knowledge is back with the LAEF Summer Enrichment Program. They are looking to not only provide a fun dance class but also seek to educate on the hip hop culture and the disciplines embedded in the movement.

Ai-Nhi Le is earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with a focus on Fitness at California State University, Long Beach. Over the past few years, she has worked with adults and children from diverse backgrounds and abilities as a coach, trainer, and tutor. Passionate about health and wellness, Ai-Nhi has coached swim, taught bootcamp and spin classes, and tutored music theory and STEAM subjects. She enjoys racing half marathons throughout the year and motivates those around her to step out of their comfort zones and join her. Committed to giving back to her community, Ai-Nhi volunteers weekly at the Share OurSelves food pantry and donation organization, as well as seasonally at Grandma’s House of Hope. Having enjoyed her time with LAEF’s afterschool program, she is excited about the opportunity to contribute to LAEF’s summer program and is eager to inspire and support her students in their growth toward leading active, healthy, and balanced lives.

Andrew Maldonado is a Musicians Institute graduate with two decades of live performance experience. Andrew owns his own music school called Blue Box Music in the city of Los Alamitos and has a decade of teaching experience. He was the music director for the JCC Maccabi Games and Artsfest in Long Beach. Andrew is excited to teach Ukulele at his first Summer Enrichment Institute.

Marco has been in the soccer coaching scene for over eight years. Currently, he is the Head Boys’ Varsity Coach at Diego Rivera Learning Center. Marco also coaches club soccer at Manchester City Soccer Academy in South Gate. Marco holds a U.S. D Soccer License.
Katelyn Mauger is an experienced educator and athlete with a deep passion for both teaching and sports. With five years of teaching experience, she has dedicated herself to shaping young minds while also maintaining an impressive athletic career. She earned her bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from Concordia University Irvine, further solidifying her commitment to education. Having played hockey competitively in Southern California for over twenty years, Katelyn brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the sport. An avid golfer, she plays regularly and enjoys the strategic challenges of the game. In addition to her own athletic pursuits, Katelyn has a strong background in coaching and mentoring young athletes.
Hilary McGilton is starting her 9th year teaching and this is her 5th year teaching at LAEF’s Summer Institute. She started her teaching career in Colorado and has taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students. She is now a teacher in Cypress. Hilary grew up in Rossmoor; attending Rossmoor Elementary, Oak Middle School and Los Alamitos High School. After high school, Hilary earned degrees from San Diego State University in Journalism and Political Science. After working in television news and law enforcement, Hilary decided her real passion was teaching. She received her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian University. As an educator, Hilary fosters growth in her students by being dedicated to developing a learning community filled with love, wonder and respect.
Shannon is a teacher at Rossmoor Elementary School.

Bella has been playing soccer since she was five years old and has loved playing ever since. She is currently a collegiate athlete playing soccer at Mercy University therefore, she knows what it takes to play at a high level. She has coached kids at all different levels ranging from youth programs to high school. She encourages education and fun throughout her trainings. She’s excited to see the development of her players and share her passion for the sport with the next generation. 

Elisa has always had a big love for art and teaching. She is attending CSU, Long Beach as a Liberal Arts major and will be working to be a credentialed teacher. She has worked as an instructional aide with Los Alamitos School district for two years. Elisa loves making wooden art and sharing her pieces with the community at pop up events. She hopes to inspire others to use 3 dimensional art as a form of expression.

Penny Morris has been a classroom teacher for 20 years. She has a BS in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Early Childhood Education. She has taught third, first, fourth, and now TK and has enjoyed every level! Her teaching experience has been in Dallas, Egypt, Los Angeles, and Long Beach. She took a ten-year break from teaching to raise her two sons and has now been back in the classroom for four years. She is an avid sewer and crafter, but currently is busy with all of her sons’ high school activities. She is looking forward to sharing her joy for sewing and STEM with students this summer!

Kristin is a veteran teacher starting her 17th year teaching, her 12th year with Los Alamitos Unified, and her third year with LAEF’s Jumpstart program. She holds a multiple-subject credential from Cal State Fullerton as well as a Science credential, and during the school year she teaches 4th Grade at Rossmoor Elementary. She has taught several years of summer school with the District as well as LAEF’s summer enrichment program and is excited to once again join the LAEF summer enrichment team.  She’s taught all grades and subjects K-8 and loves to make learning hands-on, active, and fun. After teaching Science at Oak Middle School for 8 years, she is happy to return to her elementary roots at Rossmoor Elementary. When she’s not in the classroom, you can find her spending time with her family at the beach or a baseball field.

A program designed to inspire the youth through Breaking. As a former athlete, Jason uses skills, drills, and repetition to teach proper dance techniques. Encouraging his students to move with the music, he wants them to build character and design their movements as artistic expressions. Knowledge Breaking Crew shows young dancers that anything is possible by the dint of hard work and dreams.

Sarah Ray is a passionate and dedicated educator with a strong commitment to supporting students’ academic growth. With a background in student teaching through Los Alamitos Unified School District, Sarah has developed a deep understanding of the district’s curriculum and teaching practices, which has shaped her approach to fostering a love for learning in her students. In her role as a Reading Lab Teacher, Sarah works closely with students to help them develop essential reading skills, providing tailored support and using evidence-based strategies to meet the diverse needs of her learners. Her ability to connect with students on an individual level has earned her a reputation for being patient, empathetic, and encouraging, helping students build confidence and improve their literacy skills. In addition to her teaching duties, Sarah serves as a Substitute Teacher within the district, stepping into various classrooms and adapting to different grade levels and subject areas. This experience has given her a wide range of classroom management skills and the ability to engage with students of all ages. Outside of school, Sarah is also an active tutor, working with several students each week to provide extra support in areas like reading, writing, and comprehension. Her tutoring sessions are personalized and goal-oriented, ensuring each student receives the individual attention they need to succeed. With a passion for education and a commitment to helping students achieve their potential, Sarah continues to inspire and make a positive impact on the academic journeys of many children.

Miss Redmond is a recent graduate of CSULB with a B.A. in Liberals Arts of ASL Linguistics and Deaf Cultures. As she reaches her goals to become an interpreter to speak for everyone around the world and to all Deaf Communities with her hands, she’s thrilled at the need for teaching the hearing youth the way of speaking with their hands while they are working to achieve standard academic goals. One of Miss. Redmond’s big goals for her students is to them and their families that they can begin to develop a second language at them young age and that teaching them a new language helps make learning fun for the students.

Heather Richmond has over 12 years teaching experience in classroom environments. She is currently a Reading Intervention Teacher at J. H. McGaugh Elementary. Heather graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a Bachelors of Science degree in Child and Adolescent Development. She earned her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from CSU, Fullerton as well. Heather is active in her son’s Boy Scout Troop and enjoys all outdoor activities. Her family resides in Seal Beach. Her daughter attends McGaugh and her son attends McAuliffe.

 

David is a bilingual (English/Spanish) experienced Educator, Chef, and Executive Leader with a demonstrated history of working 20+ years in the education, culinary, and nonprofit institution setting, specifically with students, adults, and families. Skilled in vision development, management, organizational development, teaching and training, and collaborative problem-solving. Strong community and social services professional with real-world organizational leadership and teaching experience.
Tess is a Mom of three (ages 15, 13 and 11) and a substitute teacher for Los Alamitos Unified School District. She has been working with kids of all ages since 2004 and have a Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. She has recently gone back to school to complete Early Childhood Education units.

Tiffany Salter, former elementary teacher, private tutor, and mom to two recent LAHS graduates, has always been involved with youth. As a Scout leader for the past 15 years, she has created fun and engaging activities for kids of all ages; and as a Kidsguide Magazine staffer throughout that time, she has been immersed in local family events and programming. A creative and engaging out-of-the-box educator, her focus is on fun — her students are always learning …whether they realize it or not!

Toni retired from the Paramount Unified School District after teaching for twenty years. Previous to her teaching career, she was the Children’s Librarian at the Los Alamitos-Rossmoor Library. Toni conducted pre-school story times, summer reading programs, and lots of other activities. She is still often recognized in the community by many people who still remember me from the library. Toni teaches for LAEF after-school at LAE! She is excited for her first summer with LAEF!

Erin Schmitt will be teaching Fundamentals of Art this summer. She was a substitute for the LAEF program last summer and is looking forward to taking her own class on an adventure through art. Erin currently attends Azusa Pacific University where she is pursuing a degree in Liberal Studies and eventually becoming an elementary school teacher. Erin’s dream is to educate young minds by making learning fun, energetic, and hands-on. Erin is eager to introduce art to young students while helping them produce, appreciate, and understand the basics of art and its masters.

Paul is no stranger to the stages of the Los Alamitos School District, performing with the McAuliffe and Los Alamitos High School show choirs and drama programs, winning best performer, musician, and singer throughout his years in the highly celebrated programs. Paul then studied Musical Theatre at CSUF and performed professionally in regional theater in productions such as Legally Blonde, Shrek, Bonnie and Clyde, as well as the world premiere of the play Jupiter Moon. He continued to study acting under Sue Hamilton in LA (focusing on scene study, on-camera auditions, and improv), as well as working with Central Casting doing background work, featured in shows like Young Sheldon, Scream Queens, American Crime Story: Versace, Silicon Valley, and more. Paul recently graduated from Cypress College with an AA in Film, Television, and Media and certificate in Creative Writing. Now Paul is studying Film (Screenwriting and Production Management) at CSULB while working as Box Office Manager for the Performing Arts Center at Cypress College and Stage Managing Holiday Shows at the Bella Terra. His experience in teaching is quite extensive. Mr. Scott volunteered as a Teaching Assistant for Los Alamitos School District’s Elementary Summer School, working for three summers from 2011 to 2013. In 2019, he was hired as a Teaching Assistant to an Art Teacher through Cypress College Art Gallery and Able ARTS Works. Paul teaches after-school classes for LAEF and he is excited to teach at his first Summer Enrichment Institute!

Amassis Shaw is a passionate educator with years of experience helping students explore technology and creativity. As a former computer lab teacher and now a dedicated digital art instructor, Amassis loves introducing young artists to the exciting world of digital creation. With a strong background in teaching elementary students how to use digital tools, Amassis makes learning fun, accessible, and engaging for all skill levels. In the Digital Art in the Digital Age summer class, Amassis will guide students through hands-on projects in digital drawing, animation, and design, helping them develop artistic skills and confidence in using technology as a creative tool. Whether your child is new to digital art or eager to expand their skills, they will have a fantastic time learning, experimenting, and expressing their creativity in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Jenna Smith graduated from CSUF with a Bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent Development and will be completing her Master’s in School Counseling this spring. She is currently a counseling intern with the Los Alamitos School District, working at Weaver and Hopkinson Elementary Schools, as well as Los Alamitos High School. Growing up, Jenna was actively involved in dance and cheerleading, and continued to cheer throughout high school, where her team hosted annual cheer clinics. Jenna is passionate about fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where kids can learn new skills, build confidence, and have fun expressing their unique personalities.
Rosalyn is a dedicated educator with 29 years of experience in the Long Beach Unified School District, where she has taught first through third grade. She holds a multiple subject teaching credential and a Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from California State University, Long Beach. As a parent of two children who graduated from Los Alamitos School, she values the importance of a strong educational foundation. Rosalyn is committed to fostering student growth and helping each child reach their full potential through both fundamental and creative teaching methods.

Nalani owns the mobile gymnastics program Leap of Faith Gymnastics with her husband, Chris.  She fell in love with the sport of gymnastics at just four years of age. Nalani competed for Newhope Gymnastics in Fountain Valley where she began coaching in high school, working her way up to recreational supervisor, special events coordinator, and competitive team coach. Nalani has been coaching for over 20 years.  She has been a USA Gymnastics professional member and a certified compulsory judge.  



Lorie is a local portrait and landscape photographer capturing life in the moment! She has been offering family, senior and professional portrait photography services in the community for over 10 years. As a proud parent of 3 children in the Los Alamitos School District, Lorie has enjoyed volunteering her time in and out of the classroom for the past 12 years.

Brent currently teaches fifth grade at Hopkinson Elementary School. Before he was hired as a teacher at Hopkinson, he taught intervention classes for the Los Alamitos Unified School District. He is excited to teach again for LAEF at our Summer Enrichment Institute.

Cassie Torres is a fitness trainer who believes every single person needs to find their best movement and healthy lifestyle.  She came from a marketing and sales background but has been training professionally since 2021, after feeling the call to help others stay active during the pandemic.  She has trained in various settings such as corporate gyms, outdoors and online, from private sessions to large groups for everyone from children to seniors.  Cassie’s mission is to encourage everyone to move, enjoy life and to especially lift up those who have felt left behind by the fitness industry.  She lives in Long Beach with her husband and enjoys the beach, Disneyland, good food, music, dancing and traveling.  

Emi and E3 DANCE has been offering dance enrichment services for over 20 years. From beginners to advanced, people of all ages and abilities have not only received dance instruction, but have also been educated as to the culture of where their specific dance originates from and how dance unites us. Emi is a certified dance instructor, who has worked professionally as a performer and studied/trained under various systems. Emiliano Torres (Emi), is the founder/owner of E3 DANCE and his background focuses on the latin dance genres (salsa, baile folklorico, cumbia, merengue and cha cha), Hip Hop and popular line dances. Emi also teaches other dance genres as well such as Bollywood, rock & roll, swing etc.. Emi has a degree from CSULB and is also a professional actor and emcee. These additional tools help him as a dance instructor bring out the best in his students. Emi’s primary demographic is kids Between 5 and 15 and the special needs community (neurodivergent individuals), but also connects well with his adult peers, whether teaching couples their first wedding dance or partnering up with a senior citizens group for a fun dance activity.
Kaitlyn Townsley is a Northern California native with a passion for early childhood education. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Child Development and Family Studies and her teaching credential from Cal State Long Beach. She is currently pursuing her master’s in Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. Kaitlyn began her teaching journey in Los Alamitos as a Reading Lab teacher and 5th grade interventionist before teaching 5th grade at Rossmoor Elementary for a year. She has spent the past two years teaching UTK at Rossmoor, fostering a love of learning in her youngest students. She has also been a dedicated Los Alamitos Summer Academy teacher for many years and is thrilled to be joining the LAEF Summer Enrichment team for the first time this year! Kaitlyn loves all things creative and hands-on, especially when it comes to learning through the eyes of little learners. When she’s not in the classroom, you can find her riding her bike, doing yoga, cooking, or painting!

Andrea has been a student of Kenpo Karate for over 30 years and is currently a 5th Degree Black Belt. She has been the International champion six times and has won more than 150 1st place trophies in her tournament career. Ms. Pfefer- Trombi owned and operated a karate school in Telluride, Colorado for 15 years. She has instructed several hundred people over the years, having many advanced students, and bringing several people to the rank of black belt. She moved back to her home state, California, with her husband and two children who attend school in the Los Al school district. Ms. Pfefer-Trombi is passionate about teaching kids and is always excited to be an instructor for the LAEF program!

Mrs. Vida grew up speaking French as her native language. She was raised in the Loire Valley, in France; graduated from college with a language degree, and worked in Paris in an American Company, before moving to the USA in her thirties. She is very familiar with our Los Alamitos Unified School District as she volunteered on PTA Boards for over 20 years. This is Mrs. Vida’s fifth year working for LAEF and she is so excited to get back at it!

Gabrielle has been a third grade teacher in Scottsdale, Arizona since 2018.  She was born and raised in Seal Beach and is a LAHS, Oak, and Weaver alumna. Gabrielle attended Northern Arizona University and then decided to continue her stay in Arizona because she loved it so much! Of course she couldn’t stay away from California for too long so she is back here for the summer. She has always enjoyed school, especially writing and can’t wait to share what she loves! 



Anne Vilchuck is an upper grades intervention and enrichment teacher at Mcgaugh Elementary. She has a love for fostering outside of the box thinking and is passionate about teaching students that they can do anything they put their minds to. Anne has a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on teaching bilingual, ESL and linguistically diverse students and has been a credentialed teacher for 14 years. In her free time, Anne enjoys spending time with her husband, reading, and playing outside with her children.

Jerry is the founder of Red Zone Threat Management and travels nationally and internationally teaching seminars to members of the DEA, Local Law Enforcement, and civilians on the topic of personal protection. He is the author of the book “Red Zone Prime: A Foundation for Personal Protection”. In addition he is a passionate instructor of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts which he teaches at the facility he has owned and operated for the last 14 years, Centerline Martial Arts and Fitness. Jerry runs kids classes daily in mixed martial arts and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as well as the kids BJJ competition team. He has two children who both attend schools in Los Alamitos Unified. Jerry firmly believes that every child has the right to enjoy their school days without fear of being bullied and is committed to helping them develop the necessary tools and attitude to help them on their journey.
